How many different self care products and toiletries do you use each day? Products like toothpaste, deodorant, shampoo, conditioner, lotion etc. are used daily by people across the country. However, not even a handful of those people know what it is being absorbed into their bodies.
Even the more health conscious people, who only buy organic products, are being blindsided.
According to the Environmental Working Group (EWG), and organization that promotes personal care product safety, the FDA does not require certain chemicals to be listed 
on product labels.
Is Their Secret Ingredient in “Natural Products”?
Beware…even “natural” products are not so “natural”. Today most products have some sort of toxic chemical used to preserve or give a better smell or taste to them. Even organic products are using chemicals without listing them on the product label. How is this permissible?
Several leading brands of organic shampoo such as, JASON Pure Natural & Organic, Giovanni Organic Cosmetics, Kiss My Face, and Nature’s Gate Organics, have been lab tested and the results are shocking.
Each brand contains a chemical called 1, 4 Dioxane, which according to the National Institute of Health’s toxic chemicals database, caused some serious health issues in animals that were tested.
Irritability in cats, retinal failure in mice and gastrointestinal issues in guinea pigs were among some of the health issues noted.
The National Institute of Health’s toxic chemical database says, unfortunately for humans issues were a lot more severe with a variety of issues ranging from convulsions to degenerative changes in the brain.
What Exactly Is 1, 4 Dioxane?
According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), 1, 4 Dioxane is used as a solvent and short term inhalation can cause drowsiness, headache, anorexia and skin irritation.
Furthermore, damage to the liver and kidneys has been observed in rats exposed to 1, 4 Dioxane in their drinking water for a long period of time.
Tumors have also been observed in orally exposed animals. The EPA has classified 1, 4-Dioxane as a Group B2 probable human carcinogen.
The classification Group B2 is used for Agents for which there is sufficient evidence from animal studies and there is no data from epidemiologic studies.
Using real natural products like olive oil for make-up remover and coconuts oil sugar scrubs for body wash are probably the best way to prevent exposure to such toxic and unnecessary chemicals.
