Pedestrian Struck in Crosswalk: Sadaka Law Built the Case for a $500,000 Settlement

  • Initial Offer: $15,000
  • Final Settlement: $500,000
  • Increase Secured: 33x

What happened

Our client, a young man in his twenties, stepped off a bus and entered the crosswalk to continue across the street. Other vehicles had already stopped as required by law. A driver — unwilling to wait — aggressively attempted to pass the stopped bus and struck our client in the crosswalk. The impact caused significant injuries that required extensive physical therapy before he was able to recover.

Why this case was worth far more than the insurer claimed

Insurance companies evaluate injuries based on what they cost today. We evaluate them based on what they will cost over a lifetime. Our client recovered — but recovery does not mean the injury disappears. At Sadaka Law, we retained medical and vocational experts to assess not only the past treatment and present condition, but the long-term consequences of these injuries as our client aged. Because he worked in a physically demanding job, we documented precisely how these injuries would affect his earning capacity, his physical endurance, and his ability to sustain that career over decades. A young person who recovers today can still suffer serious economic harm tomorrow. That future harm has real value — and we fought to make sure it was included in the settlement.

How Sadaka Law built the case

We approached this case in three dimensions: past, present, and future. Past — we documented every medical expense, every therapy session, and every day our client was unable to function normally. Present — we assessed his current physical condition and any ongoing limitations. Future — we worked with vocational and medical experts to project the cumulative impact of these injuries on a young man performing physical work over the course of his career. We also established clear liability: the driver passed a stopped bus at a crosswalk, one of the most reckless and legally indefensible acts a driver can commit. The combination of clear fault and a fully documented lifetime of harm produced a result that was 33 times the insurer’s opening offer.

What this case means for you

If you were injured and have since recovered — or are recovering — do not assume your case has little value. Young people in particular are often undercompensated because insurers focus only on current medical bills. The true value of an injury to someone early in their working life can be substantial. At Sadaka Law, we look at the complete picture of who you are, what you do, and what this injury means for your future — not just what it cost last month.

“The insurer offered $15,000 because our client had recovered. What they didn’t account for — and what we made sure a jury would have — was the full picture of what these injuries mean for a young man doing physical work for the next 40 years. That future matters. We make sure it’s valued.”
